I stumbled across artist Chris Pell on a late night google excursion. Go to his website to check out the photographs and illustrations that he created to illustrate his story called Hoku'vale. The story is accompanied by two large A1 digital prints as well as four photographs. There's an amazing African Based Religious vibe to these photos...Congo Spirits! More specifically the Bantu Cults: Reglas de Kongo, Palo Mayombe...but that's just my opinion! Chris Pell cites the following influences, "fantasy worlds, alchemy, soca music, mysticism, the internet, horror movies, sparse marshlands, medieval armour, elaborate quests and cats".

I'm currently costume obsessed as I'm still trying to pull together several costumes for future photo projects! You might remember me telling you about the Sorceress costume project! I'm still trying to make this happen! I'm totally inspired by the wonderful fairytale photography of Viona Art! She makes all the costumes that her models wear, she's over the top...check out her website! I really admire people who can construct even the simplest garments. I wish I had formal training, even just for making everyday wear. I need a cloak hoodie for this Fall...it's getting chilly in Chicago already!

An enigmatic girl who is guided by voices walks swiftly down a lantern lit trail at dusk into the woods. Where is she going? Would you dare follow? Perhaps you'll just wait at the edge of the woods and wait for her return. She won't appear again until dawn when the air is crisp and dew is fresh. Where has she been? Would you dare ask?



Alison Scarpulla lives "between worlds" and is visible only at dusk and dawn. She can guide the way to the Faerie Kingdom and the realm of Underworld...but she probably won't. She prefers to live in secrecy in her haunted house at the edge of the land. Many have sought to know her but only a chosen few are invited into her home. Once there she might make you a magick brew that allows you to see beyond the veil into the "otherworld". Or maybe she will show you her collection of magick feathers, master keys, talking skulls, and seeing stones...



I'm doing a photo collaboration with Alison this Fall and I'm just brimming with excitement!!! We're doing the same kind of thing that Courtney Brooke and I did together. I will send her a box filled with materia magica and she will do a photoshoot based on how she intuitively connects with the objects!



Alison is an elusive artist and generally doesn't do interviews. She would rather people just focus on her photography. This only adds to the intriguing quality of her work though, don't you think? Her compelling images encourage the viewer to use their imagination...something many people don't do often enough. Alison tells me lately she's "kinda sorta" working on music with her boyfriend. She also worked on a photo project with Mehdi Ameziane aka TwinSisterMoon for his 7" Vinyl release called "Bride Of The Spirits". Mehdi is one half of the psychedelic folk duo Natural Snow Buildings. The other half of the duo is Solange Gularte, her solo project is called Isengrind. All three projects, Twinsistermoon/Isengrind/Natural Snow Buildings, come together on "The Snowbringer Cult" a limited edition CD of 1000 packaged in a gorgeous 4 panel sleeve featuring gorgeous artwork by Solange. Darla Teagarden's Candy Land

Darla Teagarden finally has her very own website up...down the rabbit hole you go! Miss Teagarden designs all her own sets and styles her models. She creates props in her home and garage, does all the make-up and hair in her bathroom, and assembles it all in her bedroom where the photoshoots take place! She works with the most amazing artists! Recently, she did a shoot with Liz Mcgrath and her band Miss Derringer! She created the dress Liz is wearing out of paper! Liz McGrath actually makes most of the fabulous hats Darla uses, her line is called Creepsuela Switchletto ("Oh RATS. Where the fuck is your hat?") Well you can buy one from her etsy shop...but she on tour with her band right now so you'll have to wait till she returns home from tour!



She has also featured hats from the fabulous and incomparable Topsy Turvy Design...



And corsets by the diva of dark glamour, Louise Black...who, by the way, was casted for Project Runway's 6th Season, which will premiere August 20th on Lifetime!!! If you've been eyeing something in her Etsy Shop, snatch it up now!



And just look at this fanciful shoot she did with Christy Kane! Christy Kane is a Doll Maker and Story Teller. I sent Courtney a box of magickal goodness with a Virgin Moon Goddess theme: a Black Forest fox tooth relic, a handmade white deerskin medicine bag (containing New Moon magick) and a set of Moonstone Runes! I didn't give her any artistic direction for the photoshoot...I thought it would be better if she just vibed with the stuff I sent her. She really nailed it...she looks like a Priestess of Artemis! Tones of Dirt and Bone

These photos are part of a series called "tones of dirt and bone", taken by Mike Brodie, aka The Polaroid Kidd, is a self-trained photographer from Pensacola, Florida. He began documenting Vagabond Culture (gypsies, hobos, train-hoppers and squatters) in 2003 when he left home at 18 to travel across America. A friend gave him a Polaroid SX-70 Camera and he's been taking photographs of the friends and companions he encountered on his travels ever since! Courtney Brooke contacted me recently...just to say she loves my Etsy shop and that she sent a link to all her friends! I was sooo beyond flattered! I have been a fan of her beautiful photography since the moment I stumbled across her lush portfolio! I found her through one of my favorite bands, Ex Reverie. She has photographed some of my favorite psychedelic/folk music artists...many from the Language of Stone family, also Devendra Banhart and Natasha Kahn (Bat for Lashes). Not only is she super talented...she quite lovely too! She takes beautiful self portraits, modeling for Mama Stone Vintage, Bona Drag, and her own shop, Dreamboat Vintage, on Etsy! We chatted back and forth a bit and I'm going to send her all the witchy things I'm creating to be photographed! I'm hoping for some mystical atmospheric editorial shots, as well as close ups of the items! I know what ever she does will ROCK and I can't wait!!! Everything is falling into place...Magic Magic Magic, do as you Will!
